BIO: After teaching U.S. History in the Gary school system for 41 years Jim is now able to spend more time on his avocation, photography. While teaching he spent summers learning, managing to travel in all 50 states. His love of American history took him to many places where he learned more about his subject and photography. He is a self-taught darkroom photographer using the 35mm. black and white medium. In 2005 he began to learn digital photography and now does all his work there. Jim has been featured at local galleries in Miller and the Gary Public Library.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT: I like the challenge of capturing anything the light sends my way, for that is essentially what photography is, using the light. The subject matter varies: from capturing students in performance, to portraits, landscapes, and urban scenes. The world offers many opportunities to interpret the light. Being ready is always a challenge.
